Here's the story of yesterday and last night:
We arrived at the hospital at 7am to find that we were getting the very last delivery room, because a lot of kids wanted to be born on September 4. Amy, our nurse for most of the day got Keeley in bed and hooked up to the Oxytocin drip and told us that she was already having mild contractions at about 4 minutes apart.
Dr. Matile came in at about 9:15am and broke the water and then we waited.
Contractions got more painful, so the anesthesiologist came in and put in the epidural at around 11:30 am and put a screeching halt to the whole process. Contractions seemed to go away for a little while.
Keeley took a mini nap and everyone else went and ate some lunch.
At about 3:30 Keeley was having some additional pain, so another anesthesiologist came in and gave another kind of pain medication which got everything jump started. About 15 minutes later a series of good big contractions kicked in.
Grandparents came in for a visit at about 4:10, but then then nurse Amy came back for a quick check and said it was time to push. Amy the super nurse seemed content to attempt delivery with just dad and her for a tense period of about 20 minutes before the Dr. Matile could get back over to the room. Keeley pushed for a total of about 35 minutes and then Carsen took over the show.
We were moved over to a tiny little "mother and child" room to spend out the rest of the day and night. Carsen was very quiet....ate and slept. Mom and dad even got about 6 hours sleep so it was a good first day.
